Sobre esta oportunidad

El espacio

Caminho Coliving is a welcoming shared home in Maia, near Porto, created for remote workers, artists and people seeking a more intentional community experience. On arrival, the artist will find a private, furnished bedroom with a desk and an ergonomic chair, as well as access to high-speed Wi-Fi and a 24/7 coworking area. The house also includes a fully equipped shared kitchen, living and dining areas, a wellbeing room, laundry facilities, an indoor creative space and a garden. Each resident has dedicated space in the fridge and pantry and can organise their daily routine independently. Weekly cleaning of the shared areas and bed linen are included. The artistic sessions take place in João Santos’s personal studio, located just one minute’s walk from Caminho. There, the artist can discover João’s working environment, tools, materials and artistic processes through personalised sessions. Caminho is a lived-in community rather than a conventional retreat centre. Artists share the house with residents from different countries and backgrounds, while retaining the privacy and freedom needed to work, create and rest. Weekly community dinners and activities offer natural opportunities to connect, exchange ideas and become part of the life of the house.

El entorno

Caminho Coliving is located in Moreira, Maia, in a peaceful and green residential area near Porto. It offers a calm environment for creating, working and resting, while still providing access to the city’s cultural life, museums, galleries, cafés and restaurants. Porto city centre is approximately 30 minutes away by public transport. The nearest bus stop, Guarda, is around a five-minute walk from the house and is served by bus 604. Zona Industrial and Mandim metro stations are approximately 15 minutes away on foot. Porto Airport is also nearby. We provide detailed arrival information before check-in and are available to help the artist plan the most convenient route. Although public transport is accessible, having a bicycle or car can offer greater flexibility for exploring Maia, Porto and the surrounding region.

La estancia

Life at Caminho follows a flexible rhythm rather than a fixed retreat schedule. The artist can organise each day around remote work, independent creative exploration, rest and time in the community. During the first two or three weeks, a typical week may include two or three personalised artistic sessions with João Santos. These take place in his studio, one minute from the house, and are arranged according to both the artist’s and João’s availability. Between sessions, the artist can experiment independently, develop a personal project or simply explore different materials and techniques without the pressure to produce a final work. Each week also includes one cultural or gastronomic experience, one community dinner and one community activity. These moments offer opportunities to discover the local culture, meet the other residents and exchange ideas. Participation in other informal moments, conversations and spontaneous activities is welcome but not compulsory. Daily life is independent. The artist is responsible for buying and preparing their own meals and has dedicated space in the shared fridge and pantry. The house’s quiet hours are from 11 p.m. To 7 a.m., helping everyone balance community life with privacy, work and rest. There is no expectation of a final artwork or exhibition. If the artist chooses to develop a project and would like to share it, an informal presentation or open studio may be arranged at the end of the stay.

Qué hará el artista

The artist may develop a personal project or use the residency as a month of open-ended creative exploration. The programme is designed together with the participant according to their interests, experience, goals and preferred rhythm. Possible areas of exploration include ceramics, eco-art, drawing, painting, sculpture, artistic crafts and projects combining different techniques and materials. Through 6 to 9 personalised sessions, João Santos will introduce relevant processes, materials and tools, while supporting the artist in becoming increasingly autonomous. Between the accompanied sessions, the artist will have time and space to experiment independently, continue remote work, rest or explore Porto and its surroundings. The artist does not need to arrive with a defined proposal, and there is no obligation to complete a final artwork. If a project develops naturally during the residency, João can support its creation and, if the artist wishes, an informal presentation or open studio may be organised at the end of the stay.

Normas de la casa

Quiet hours are from 11 p.m. To 7 a.m. Residents are expected to respect one another’s privacy, rest and working hours, and to keep shared spaces clean and ready for others to use. Everyone participates in the basic cleaning rota and follows the house’s recycling and composting practices. Please use shared resources responsibly and communicate openly if any issue arises. Flor, our friendly resident dog, must not be fed by guests. As she is very sociable and enjoys interacting with residents, participants should feel comfortable sharing the house with a dog.

Bueno saberlo

No previous artistic experience is required. We welcome professional artists, emerging creators and anyone who wishes to reconnect with their creativity. The residency is personalised following a conversation about the participant’s interests, experience, availability and expectations. There is no obligation to arrive with a defined project or to produce a final artwork. The month may be dedicated entirely to learning, experimenting and exploring different materials and techniques. The residency is designed for one participant at a time, allowing for close and individualised guidance. We ask residents to respect the shared spaces, quiet hours and the privacy of others, while remaining open to community life and cultural exchange. Caminho is also home to Flor, our friendly and very sociable small dog. She enjoys interacting with residents, so this experience is best suited to someone who feels comfortable living with a dog. Daily meals and travel costs are not included. Specialised materials or materials required for larger personal projects will be discussed and agreed upon in advance.
