El espacio
Miga van der Merwe introduces expressive acrylic painting on perspex, balancing loose, confident handling with observation, harmony and detail. Participants first complete a small practice piece to understand the surface, limited palette and paint behaviour, then develop a vibrant finished artwork with guidance. The subject may vary from the examples shown by the organiser, and participants can adapt colour choices as they work toward a more personal result.
El entorno
Teaching takes place at The Barn, 769 Fisheagle Drive, Merryhill, Chintsa East, near South Africa's Wild Coast. The retreat setting combines the studio with gardens, coastal scenery and sunset views around The Gables.
La estancia
Three nights are included at The Gables Boutique Hotel or Ikigai Retreat. The Gables offers garden surroundings and shared spaces for resting between sessions. The listed rates distinguish shared and single occupancy.
Bueno saberlo
Dates are November 26 to 29, 2026, with tuition from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The all-inclusive rate is ZAR 7,950 per person sharing or ZAR 8,950 single. Travel is excluded, though a shuttle can be arranged. The final materials list will be confirmed closer to the retreat; participants are invited to bring their own paints and brushes and extra support if they want to make more than one painting.

Learn how acrylic behaves on perspex, explore a limited palette and complete a small practice piece.
Develop the finished artwork
Choose a subject and colour direction, then build a larger expressive painting with Miga's guidance.
