The short version

Culture Moves Europe's 2026–2027 residency-host call supports a legally registered host in a Creative Europe country to run one cross-border residency project. The host can propose places for one to five artists or cultural professionals who legally live in other participating countries. The first-stage application closes 18 January 2027 at 23:59 CET.

The grant supports both sides of the stay. The host receives a hosting allowance; each resident has a daily and travel allowance. A real programme needs accommodation, workspace and artistic guidance, not simply an available room. This guide reflects the official host call checked on 20 October 2026. Read the full call document before applying; its terms govern eligibility and payment.

Who can apply as a host

The applicant must be a legal entity registered and based in a Creative Europe participating country, with the capacity to run the proposed project. The call explicitly includes organisations and registered self-employed artists. A personal Artaway host profile, a listing or a location in Europe does not establish legal registration or grant eligibility.

The eligible fields are architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, literature, music, performing arts and visual arts. Residents must come from other Creative Europe countries. Check the current participating-country list and each resident's legal residence; nationality alone is not the test.

What the residency project needs

Describe a concrete artistic or cultural project for one to five residents. It must pursue at least two of the programme's five objectives: to create, learn, explore, connect or transform. Explain what residents will do, why the place and people matter, and what they can achieve during the stay.

The host must provide suitable accommodation and workspace, plus at least one mentor who can guide the residents' artistic process. Budget and plan the actual space, time and guidance you can provide. A standard workshop booking or informal room swap does not become an eligible residency just because an artist travels; compare the exact duration, location and other conditions in the full call document.

How the money works

Host allowance: €50 per day for each resident. With one resident for 30 days, that is €1,500; with two residents for the same 30 days, €3,000. These are arithmetic examples, not a quoted project budget. The host must still plan the costs of accommodation, workspace, mentoring and the programme itself.

Resident support: each resident receives a €30 daily allowance and travel support of €400 for a one-way straight-line distance under 5,000 km, or €800 from 5,000 km. The application form calculates distance. The resident amounts should not be described as income for the host.

Possible additions: the official call lists host accessibility support of €375, €675 or €1,200, depending on the duration category. Residents may qualify for a €400 green-mobility top-up, €175 for an overseas country, territory or outermost region, €200 per child under 18 and €120 for a visa. Resident accessibility support can also include a fixed €375, €675 or €1,200 and help with personal assistance or sign-language interpretation. Extra support has specific conditions. The host must request applicable top-ups and accessibility support in the phase-two residency information card; these cannot be added later.

The two stages and dates

Phase 1, by 18 January 2027: apply with the residency concept and documents for the host entity. The programme evaluates applications after the deadline and says results will arrive in the Goethe Application Portal by 9 March 2027.

Phase 2, 9 March to 31 July 2027: selected hosts choose their residents and complete the residency information card. The earliest project start is 12 April 2027. You do not need to name every resident in phase 1, but you do need a credible plan to reach eligible artists and run the residency. Leave time to confirm residents, travel and any support needs before submitting phase two.

What to prepare

The first-stage supporting documents include proof of the legal entity, an artistic portfolio or promotional report for that entity, and a short CV for at least one mentor. The project description should make the creative aim, cross-border value, accommodation, workspace and guidance specific. Check the full call document for file formats and detailed conditions.

Apply through the Goethe Application Portal as Organisation/Enterprise, select Culture Moves Europe funding, then the 2026–2027 call for residency hosts. The form is in English; the programme allows translation tools and does not assess language fluency. If selected, collect each resident's identification, CV, portfolio and proof of legal residence for the phase-two card. Confirm any conditional funding needs then, rather than leaving them to the end.

Where Artaway fits

Artaway can help you describe a residency clearly and find artists who may be interested in a genuine cross-border project. A clear listing can explain dates, accommodation, workspace, mentoring and what you hope to develop with residents. Speak with artists directly before agreeing on a project or naming them in a grant application.

Artaway is not part of Culture Moves Europe, cannot confirm eligibility, and does not select or fund projects. An Artaway listing is not proof that a host or artist meets the call. Artists planning their own trip should read our individual mobility guide: it is a separate route with a different applicant and budget.

Frequently asked questions

Can a self-employed artist apply as a host? Yes, the programme names self-employed artists, but the applicant still needs the legal registration and other host conditions in the current call.

Do I need to choose residents before 18 January? Phase 1 is the host's project application. Selected hosts choose residents and submit their information in phase 2, between 9 March and 31 July 2027.

Does the €30 daily allowance go to the host? It is support for each resident. The separate host allowance is €50 per resident-day.

Will a short workshop or exchange qualify? Its label does not decide eligibility. The full project must satisfy the call's residency, duration, accommodation, workspace, mentoring and cross-border rules.

Can an artist use the individual mobility grant with my space instead? Possibly, if the artist's own project and international partnership meet that separate call. Being a destination or a paid booking alone does not establish a collaborative project.
