Sobre esta oportunidade

O espaço

My marble carving workshops take place in a working sculpture studio in Pietrasanta, Tuscany, a town renowned for its long tradition of marble sculpture. The studio is located approximately 500 metres from the historic town centre. Each participant has their own workspace outdoors, beneath a roof that provides shelter from sun and rain. The studio is equipped for both traditional and modern marble carving. Participants learn to use hammer and chisel, pneumatic carving hammers, angle grinders and other power tools. All necessary tools, machinery and safety equipment are available. I teach small groups of five to six participants, allowing plenty of time for individual guidance. Beginners and experienced sculptors are equally welcome. The two-week workshop consists of ten teaching days, with six hours of practical instruction each day. Participants work on their own sculpture, from the initial design and rough shaping to refining and finishing the marble.

O entorno

Pietrasanta is the Mecca of sculptors. The town breathes art. Artists from all over the world come here to work in specialised marble studios, bronze foundries and mosaic workshops. Pietrasanta has been closely connected with sculpture for centuries. Michelangelo also lived and worked in this area, close to the famous marble quarries of Carrara. In the historic centre, you will find around thirty art galleries with changing exhibitions and several museums, including the Museo dei Bozzetti, which houses a remarkable collection of original sculptors' models. Sculptures can also be seen everywhere, in squares, on roundabouts and throughout the streets. International artists such as Henry Moore, Damien Hirst, Fernando Botero and Igor Mitoraj have worked in Pietrasanta and the surrounding area. During the course, we visit artists' studios and workshops. The wide variety of styles represented by artists working here in marble and bronze provides a wonderful source of inspiration. The studio is located approximately 500 metres from Piazza del Duomo, close to the historic centre. You work outdoors under a spacious roof that provides shelter from both sun and rain. Italian artigiani, skilled craftsmen who work with marble every day, also work in the studio. Directly behind Pietrasanta rise the impressive Apuan Alps. From the town, you can enjoy beautiful walks along old, partly medieval paths through the hills and mountain villages. Just four kilometres away is the Tyrrhenian coas

Bom saber

Linda has a wide selection of marble blocks available, allowing you to choose a stone that suits your own design. This means you can start working straight away, without losing valuable course time visiting marble suppliers or searching for a suitable block. All the necessary tools and machinery are available for you to use during the course. From hammers and chisels to pneumatic hammers and angle grinders, there is no need to buy or bring your own tools. Protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection and work gloves, is also provided. The cost of marble is not included in the course fee. For an average-sized block, you can expect to pay approximately €80–€120. The final price depends on the size and type of marble you choose. Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty or damaged. As you will be working outdoors under a roof, dressing in layers is recommended. Mornings can be chilly, while temperatures in April can sometimes reach 23°C (73°F). Start the day warmly dressed and remove layers as the temperature rises.
