O espaço
Herman Pekel teaches a direct, expressive approach to watercolour that prioritises strong design, tonal clarity and lively handling over tight detail. Across four teaching days, participants work through demonstrations, guided painting and individual feedback, with time to continue in the studio after scheduled tuition. The course is structured to support beginners while giving experienced painters space to loosen their process and develop a more decisive visual response.

Greenhills Art Centre is based in a historic homestead in Australia, with studio facilities and eight guest rooms. Field trips may form part of the retreat programme when applicable, and participants staying elsewhere can discuss independent accommodation or caravan options with the centre.

The full retreat includes five nights and six days at Greenhills Art Centre, with accommodation in one of eight guest rooms, full board, teas and shared evening gatherings. Independent off-site accommodation and caravan arrangements may also be possible; confirm availability before booking.
Bom saber
The published full-retreat fee is AUD 2,260, with a AUD 300 deposit. It includes five nights, meals, four days of tuition, late studio access, airport transfers and programme field trips when applicable. A materials list is emailed after booking, so painting supplies are not listed as included.

Itinerário
Arrival and settling in
Arrive at Greenhills, meet the group and settle into the homestead before the teaching programme begins.
Four tuition days
Work through demonstrations, guided watercolour exercises and individual painting with Herman Pekel.
Studio evenings and shared meals
Continue working after scheduled tuition and join the group for meals, conversation and occasional demonstrations.
Departure
Complete the retreat after the final studio period and arranged transfer.
