L'espace
The workshop begins with creating an original portrait reference using Midjourney or Gemini, then moves into composition, design and drawing before painting starts. Across the remaining days, Kara demonstrates how to build form and colour in acrylic, layer the portrait and make considered decisions from the generated reference. Participants receive guidance throughout while developing a painting in their own visual language.

The workshop is held at Kara Bullock Art School in Tustin, California. John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana is the nearest airport. Participants arrange their own travel and can choose from nearby hotels or short-term rentals.
Bon à savoir
Tuition is USD 649 and the class is limited to 12 participants. Bring an iPad or laptop, access to Midjourney or Gemini, a stylus if you use one, and your preferred canvases, acrylic paints, brushes, palette and gesso. An optional supply kit may be available by contacting the school. Accommodation, travel and meals are not included.

Itinéraire
Day 1 · Create the reference
Use Midjourney or Gemini to develop an original portrait reference and learn how to direct the image toward a paintable idea.
Day 2 · Design and begin
Refine the composition, transfer or draw the design and begin the acrylic painting.
Day 3 · Build form and colour
Develop layers, colour relationships and dimensional form through demonstrations and guided studio work.
Day 4 · Resolve the portrait
Continue painting, make final adjustments and bring the work toward completion with individual feedback.
