Artaway is a platform connecting artists with hosts for creative exchanges and residencies. Artists find inspiring spaces to work in, and hosts share their spaces with creatives — through art-for-stay exchanges, residencies, or paid gigs.

How do I sign up?

Click 'Sign up' in the top right corner. You'll choose whether you're an artist or a host, then complete your profile with your details, portfolio (for artists), or space description (for hosts). It's completely free.

Is Artaway free?

Yes. Listing a space is free for hosts during early access. We're focused on building a strong community first — pricing may be introduced later, but early members will always be taken care of.

How does an art exchange work?

An artist offers their creative skills — painting a mural, teaching a workshop, performing, or leaving artwork behind — in exchange for accommodation, studio space, meals, or other hospitality from the host. The details are agreed between both parties.

What's the difference between an exchange, residency, and paid gig?

An exchange is a direct swap of art for hospitality. A residency offers dedicated time and space for an artist to focus on their work. A paid gig is a commissioned creative project with a set budget. Hosts choose which type to offer.

How do I find opportunities?

Use the Explore page to browse listings. You can filter by location, discipline, type (exchange, residency, paid), dates, and more. You can also search by location using the search bar.

How do I apply to a listing?

Click 'Apply now' on any listing page. Write a short introduction message to the host explaining who you are and why you're interested. The host will review your application and can accept or decline.

Can I withdraw an application?

Yes. Go to your Applications tab in the dashboard and click 'Withdraw' on any pending application. This cannot be undone.

What should I include in my profile?

A profile photo, your craft, a bio describing your practice, your disciplines, portfolio photos, and social links. Hosts are more likely to respond to complete profiles.

How does travel availability work?

You can set your travel availability in your profile — specify where you'll be and your dates. This shows as a badge on your artist card and detail page, making it easy for hosts in that area to find you.

How do I create a listing?

Go to your dashboard and click 'My Listings', then '+ New listing'. Describe your space, what you offer, what creative skills you're looking for, location, dates, and add photos. You can create multiple listings.

How do I review applications?

When an artist applies, you'll see it in your Applications tab. You can view their profile, portfolio, and application message, then accept or decline. Accepted artists can then message you directly.

What should I include in my listing?

Clear photos of your space, a description of what you offer (accommodation, meals, studio space), what creative work you're looking for, dates, duration, and your location. The more detail, the better applications you'll receive.

Can I edit or delete a listing?

Yes. Go to My Listings in your dashboard, select the listing, and click 'Edit listing'. You can update any details including photos, description, and availability.

No. You can create as many listings as you like — it's unlimited and free during early access.

How do I message someone?

You can message a host from their listing page or artist detail page using the 'Message' button. You can also access all your conversations from the Messages section in your dashboard.

Yes. You'll receive email notifications for new messages, applications, and application status changes. You can manage your notification preferences in your profile settings.

What happens after my application is accepted?

You'll be notified by email and can see the status update in your Applications tab. You can then message the host directly to discuss logistics, dates, and details.

Can I leave a review?

Yes. After completing an exchange, both artists and hosts can leave reviews. Artists review listings, and hosts review artists. Reviews help build trust in the community.

We use Supabase for secure authentication and data storage, with row-level security policies on all tables. Your password is never stored in plain text, and we use HTTPS everywhere.
