About this opportunity

The space

The building began construction as a hotel, the founder of Ruralco, Oscar, finished building it himself. Most things in the coliving are built by hand, so there is a DIY vibe to the place. Every room has its own bathroom and there and two common workspaces and two meeting rooms. There are areas to work outside if weather permits. There are also two gardens, one with flowers and another with veggies. We have two donkeys as well which you may feed kitchen scraps to. We are nestled in the mountains, surrounded by a beautiful Mediterranean landscape (a mix of native vegetation and almond/olive tree groves). There are hiking trails all around that can be freely explored and we have two bikes you can use as well.

Surroundings

Our location is very rural. You can get close to us with public transit, but not all the way here. Get yourself to Castellón by train, bus, or plane, then hop on the 4:15 pm weekday bus to Villafranca del Cid and get off at Albocàsser. Tell us before hand and send us a message when you arrive there and we'll come and get you. We can also pick you up directly from Castellón for a fee, please contact us to arrange.

Life during a stay

Days here move at their own pace. Mornings might mean coffee on the terrace or a walk before the heat sets in; afternoons are yours to write, shoot, wander, or do nothing at all. Meals are communal — we cook and eat together most nights, often with whatever came out of the garden that day. Evenings tend to end outside, sometimes under a genuinely absurd number of stars. It's social when you want it to be, and easy to disappear into your own work when you don't. We go to explore nearby villages and/or festivals sometimes on the weekends as well.

What the artist will do

Artists are encouraged to explore their creative practices, using the surrounding nature, rural cultural heritage, and connection with others in the coliving as inspiration in their art. We recommend hosting at least one workshop during your stay where you can guide other guests in exploring your creative medium.

Good to know

Our motto is "Make it rural, make it real". We aim to offer guests an authentic place to reflect and enjoy nature and the company of others.
