How it works
List your space
Sign up and add your venue, what you're imagining (mural, photo series, workshop, performance, or something else), the kind of artist who'd fit, and the budget. Takes about 15 minutes and it's free to list.
Artists apply to you
Traveling artists find your listing and apply with a short message. You already have their bio and portfolio on their profile — read it, ask questions, accept or decline.
They come, they create
The artist arrives and works on-site — painting, shooting, performing, teaching, building. You agreed the fee, timeline, and what's included up-front. Many hosts also offer accommodation during the project, but it's not required. You keep the work.
Iara, in Bristol
Iara Vida is a Brazilian artist whose practice centers on earth pigments — paints made from the dirt and clay she gathers from the landscapes she travels through.
Last September, she spent a week in Bristol. She walked the area, gathered earth from three locations around the region, and turned it into a mural for a host who'd offered her a place to stay in exchange.
The host got an original work tied to the landscape around them. Iara got a place to live, materials to gather, and a story she'll tell for years.

How pricing works
Each commission is unique. The artist proposes a fee based on the scale of the work, the materials, and the time required. Many hosts also offer accommodation and meals during the project — it's a great way to make the experience richer, but it's entirely up to you. Artaway is free to use during early access — we don't take a commission on the artwork, the fee goes directly to the artist. (Some hosts prefer to build the work into an exchange or residency instead of a cash fee — you can frame your listing that way and artists open to it will apply.)
