About this opportunity
The space
Work with Re Jin Lee and Corinne Aivazian through a complete ancestral ceramics process in Montmorillon. The small group identifies and processes wild clay, explores traditional handbuilding and low-tech surface methods, studies and constructs simple wood-fired kilns, learns to read fire and heat, and experiments with burnishing, terra sigillata, obvara, reduction, and naked raku.
Surroundings
Casa Julfa is in the historic town of Montmorillon in southwest France. The programme includes visits to nearby firing sites, local brocantes and flea markets, country walks, and a wood firing at a lake and nature reserve.
Life during a stay
Five nights are included in a private or shared ensuite room or apartment at Casa Julfa, a seventeenth-century townhouse with pottery and studio spaces. The package includes a welcome hamper and welcome dinner rather than full board.
Good to know
All clay, tools, workshop materials, and round-the-clock studio access are included. Participants must arrange travel to Montmorillon and hold comprehensive travel insurance. Pickup and drop-off at Montmorillon station are included for arrivals and departures on the stated workshop dates.
