The space
Kathleen Lang demonstrates how botanical material can leave colour, pattern and form on silk without a conventional printed design. Participants discuss which plants produce useful colours, plan an arrangement and work through the wrapping and eco-printing process to create a personal silk scarf. The workshop balances a clear demonstration with time to compose and make an individual piece using gathered leaves and flowers.
Surroundings
The workshop is held at New Hope Makers Studio in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The studio can advise on nearby inns, hotels and short-term rentals, and limited sleeping accommodation may be available on the premises by prior arrangement.
Life during a stay
Accommodation is not part of the workshop fee. Limited on-site sleeping space may be available, and the organiser also suggests local inns, hotels and short-term rentals. Contact the studio directly before making travel plans.
Good to know
The session runs Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. Tuition is USD 170. The silk scarf and workshop supplies are included, but participants bring plant material from a list supplied after registration. Botanicals can be provided for an additional USD 20 when requested at least two weeks ahead. Minimum enrolment is four and maximum capacity is eight.

Itinerary
Plants, colour and process
Review suitable leaves and flowers, discuss the colours they can produce and watch the eco-printing demonstration.
Compose the scarf
Arrange botanical material across the silk and develop a considered pattern for the finished piece.
Print and finish
Wrap and process the scarf so the natural material transfers its colour and form to the fabric.
