Common questions

Do I pay to use Artaway?
No. Browsing and applying are free for artists, and listing a space is free for hosts. Some listings have a fee set by the host. That's shown on the listing itself, and it goes to the host, not to us.
How is Artaway different from a traditional residency?
Traditional residency programmes tend to be institutional: fixed application windows, a jury, and a formal selection process. Most spaces here are independent, artist-run studios, retreats, galleries, eco-lodges and private homes, and you apply directly to the person running them. Arrangements come in three kinds. Self-funded, where you pay a fee the host sets. Funded, where the host or a programme covers costs and sometimes pays a stipend. And exchange, where you contribute agreed creative or practical work instead of paying.
Who are the hosts?
Independent studios, retreats, galleries, eco-lodges and private spaces, plus some larger institutions. Each host writes and manages their own listing.
How do I apply?
Open a listing and apply directly to the host. You'll need a profile with a short bio, your disciplines, and a few images of your work.

Iara Vida

In four months I did five art exchanges across Brazil, Spain, Portugal, the UK and Morocco — earth pigment workshops, murals, watercolor residencies. Each time I received everything in return: accommodation, food, workspace, materials.
